Axial-flow fans, when operating normally, will always generate some level of noise. Research shows that noise begins to occur when wind speeds exceed 0.75 meters per second. The lower the wind speed, the quieter the fan operates. With advancements in fan technology, we’re increasingly able to reduce noise pollution. When choosing a fan, is it true that the lower the noise level, the better? While maintaining low noise is certainly desirable, we must also take economic factors into account. The lower the required noise level, the higher the cost of the fan. For every 10 dB reduction in noise level, the fan’s cost roughly doubles (this is an empirical observation, not a linear relationship). Most fans cannot achieve noise levels below 35 decibels.
